Little Lille Lamb Chop

Little Lille Lamb Chop

It is not every day that at VetMed we have a baby lamb come in for treatment! Lillie the potty lamb was brought back from the farm as her mother had abandoned her after birth. Lillie was loving her city stay. Fresh milk in he bottle, lots of cuddles and a back yard to run around with her friend Billy . This is where the problem started. Lillie and Billie shared the back yard with 2 pet dogs who loved to chase lambs. One afternoon the chase got serious with Lillie being knocked over and severely bitten by her 2 companions.

Lillie was rushed to VetMed Randwick with a 30cm open wound to her abdomen and multiple bite wounds to her neck. Lillie was rushed into the treatment room for emergency treatment. Lillie had pale gums indicating shock. Intravenous fluids were instilled via catheter in her front leg. Oxygen was supplied via a mask.
After stabilising Lillie, we now had the job of piecing Lillie back together again. Her wounds were thoroughly flushed with saline and the edges cleaned back to health tissue. Then 65 staples were placed to bring the edges together. The wounds in the neck were cleaned and closed in a similar way.
Lillie woke from her anesthetic, gave a loud bleat and then settled into warm bottle of milk. It was amazing to see Lillie walk out the door 5 hours later into the arms of her owners. With lots TLC Lillie recovered extremely well from her wounds and returned recently to have all her staples removed and get more photos with VetMed staff.
